Plumbing repairs are some of the priciest repairs homeowners may have to shoulder, especially in cases where the whole plumbing system has to be replaced. However, a good plumber with the right equipment can perform a leak detection test, analyze the damage, and present you with different options that may minimize the repair costs.

That is exactly how we managed to save one of our customers over $40,000 on plumbing repair.

Here’s the story:

The client called us for a second opinion because another plumbing company came in and told them they had to have their entire plumbing system replaced, and it was going to cost them $60,000. While that is an option your plumber may give to you, only in rare cases would you need to have your plumbing system replaced.

Finding the Leak

If you are the homeowner or the plumber and you think there is a slab leak, you have to prove it first. So, we started with a sewer water test to find the leak. When we went in and isolated certain lines, we verified that some parts of the system were good, but we also proved that two areas needed to be replaced. However, we did not need to replace the entire system.

The Solution

If you’re a plumber, you should give your client all the available repair options. Tell them if they may need to have their plumbing system replaced in the future so that they don’t waste money on temporary repairs that may not serve them for a long time. And if the slab leak can be repaired without replacing the entire system, tell them that too.

In our case, the client opted for repairs, and that is what we did. We dug two tunnels to get to the two leak locations and rerouted the lines around the front yard, which was a lot cheaper for the customer.
