Slab leaks are every homeowner’s worst nightmare. They can cause significant damage to your home and are quite pricey to detect and fix. It’s always wise to have your plumbing system regularly checked by a professional plumber to avoid slab leak issues creeping on you. If you already have a slab leak, getting it fixed as quickly as possible will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Read on to see how we were able to save one of our clients some money by detecting and fixing a leak in the hot water line under their slab.
After marking the leak, the dig crew dug an access hole and tunneled under the house to get us to the leak. Since the water line was leaking only on the hot side, the customer did not have to shut off all the water coming into their home. Their cold water line was open, and they could use the water as we repaired the other line.
After fixing a leak, plumbers are advised to test the system to see if the water line is fine before closing everything up. And we’re glad we did just that because we noticed another small leak on the other end of the same line after repairing the initial leak.
We determined that the best course of action would be to install a new piece of copper tubing and remove the old line. That way, the homeowner will not have to worry about leaks along that line again.
Repairing sewer and water lines under a slab is not exactly a simple job. First, you must detect and locate the leak accurately, then figure out how to keep air moving and keep things cool while you’re working there. So, you want to have all the equipment you’ll need before setting out.
